Events of Tuesday: The Savior’s Confrontation with the Leaders

• Passing by the fig tree that had withered from the roots.

• The rest of the day was spent in the temple with His disciples, answering them and speaking to them about the Second Coming, the great Day of Judgment, and the need to be prepared for it (such as the Parable of the Wicked Vinedressers and the Wedding Feast of the King’s Son).

• He responds to the Pharisees about the obligation of paying taxes to Caesar, and to the Sadducees, who cunningly question Him about the resurrection, which they themselves deny.

• He speaks to them about the destruction of the Temple and tells the Parable of the Ten Virgins.

• In the evening, He left the temple with the intention of never returning to it again, and went to Bethany to rest, after saying to the Jews:
  “Behold, your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’” (Matthew 23:38–39).

Liturgical Notes

• The entire Gospel of Matthew is read on this day while we are fasting.

• The phrase “My Good Savior” is added to the hymn “Thine is the Power…” starting from the Eleventh Hour, because in the Gospel of this hour our Savior sets the time of His crucifixion, saying:
  “You know that after two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.” (Matthew 26:2)

• The Psalm of the Eleventh Hour, “Your throne, O God…”, is chanted in its well-known melody called “the Shaami (Levantine) tune.”

• يقرأ إنجيل متى كله اليوم ونحن صائمون.

• تضاف عبارة "مخلصى الصالح "على تسبحة "لك القوة .." إبتداء من الساعة الحادية عشر من اليوم لأن مخلصنا فى إنجيل هذه الساعة عين ميعاد صلبه بقوله " تعلمون أنه بعد يومين يكون الفصح وابن الإنسان يسلم ليصلب "( مت 26 : 2 ).

• يقال مزموز الساعة الحادية عشر "كرسيك يا الله " بلحنه المعروف "بالشامى "
